hammerspain.

Yes that is pretty much what I thought - he's fitted the weather bar straight with the furniture which accentuates the bottom looking pissed.

My granddad was a chippy, if he was still about he'd have done a miles better job.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
The whole frame and top window looks pissed in relation to the brickwork.

Beautiful door BTW

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
Not a lot he could have done with top of door as a door is made "square" and your frame and opening in the brickwork have dropped on one side over the years, which is normal with old houses.
If you fit a new frame which would be square it would look odd where it meets brickwork arch at top as would have to be cut in. However the weather bar (bit of wood which is fitted at bottom of door) could have been fitted a lot better as it looks pissed. Also what has he capped the screws on w/bar with? Looks like white plastic caps, which is bit out of place.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
I understand it was hard, but the door has been trimmed down. It looks heavily on the piss.

The guy has had over a grand off me, I don't think that job justifys that.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
Because of how far the frame is out the gap underneath maybe due to the max size of the door
Obviously only going from photo trying to see it from fitters side, could well be bad just saying that sometimes it is difficult into such a bad frame

Honest Hammer 8:37 Wed Oct 14
Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
The bottom is miles out, if you raised up the base so it was level on both sides it would look fine.

Obviously the top part of the frame is out, that's fairly normal for an old house, I accept that.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
Ok the photo helps , he has tried to hang the door level to the original frame, he could not of hung it to 'run in line' with the old frame as it would of looked a lot worse ie the letter plate and vision panels would of been way out of level, in my opinion he has done a decent job in the circumstances, to replace a like for like frame is a significant job

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work

The previous door didn't look wonky in the same frame because it was fitted in such a way.

If you quote to fit a door and recommend against changing the frame then you can't then blame the frame for it not looking straight. There are alterations that could be made that were agreed on the day when I made him aware I wasn't satisfied. He has since avoided me.

Sounds like a frame up. Should have sorted this early doors, shame he's not still about, as could have sent Beadle to finger him.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
So by agreeing that he would patch it up why did u expect the out of level frame to be levelled?
Agree need pictures

HH - PHOTO OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN?

Truly- as a skilled photographer, at least put a couple of pics up- we will offer advice and at least have a laugh, if nothing else ;-)

Honest Hammer 7:16 Wed Oct 14
Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
We discussed about replacing it and he advised against it, saying that his brother could patch it up no problem.

His brother did that but between the the door looks miles out.

We would have had the frame done had the advice been to replace it.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
I imagine he has hung the door as best as possible to an out of level frame and it now stands out as the panels on the door don't run in line with the head of the door which may have been the best he could do in a old frame

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
Is he on checkatrade ?.. If he is it might be worth calling them to see if they can pull him into line on this, also have you taken another (reputable) chippys opinion on the works this guy has done for you ?...

FrancoisVanDerElst 6:48 Wed Oct 14
Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
You said you asked him to patch up the frame which is out of level? Why do you think it should now look straight , did he price to replace it first?
